Qoya Dance Coming to Indianapolis

Author Betsy Blankenbaker, originally from Indianapolis, will return to teach Qoya dance classes every Monday at 11:30 a.m. and Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. from October 5 through 21 at The Playful Soul, in Indianapolis.
Qoya is the expressive dance that helped heal her relationship to her body, as mentioned in her first book, Autobiography of an Orgasm. The book tells the tale of her personal journey to healing trauma and learning to embody the sensual femininity within her body.
“In Qoya, we use movement as medicine,” says Blankenbaker, who healed her history of sexual abuse by learning to listen to her body through movement. “My connection to my body was shut down from not expressing myself and not speaking up about the abuse.”
Qoya dance is led by the teacher through suggested topics, but each attendee chooses how to express that topic through finding what movements and rhythms feel in synch with their mind and emotions.
Blankenbaker’s second book, Autobiographies of Our Orgasms: A Collection of Your Stories, shares women’s stories about sexuality and overcoming abuse, depicting their own strength and healing.
