Black Saturday Art Bazaar: An Alternative to Black Friday Shopping
Evoke Arts and Media will present Black Saturday Art Bazaar from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on November 28 as part of Small Business Saturday at Broad Ripple United Methodist Church. Over 50 local artists will have booths with paintings, sculptures, pottery and more holiday gift shopping.
There’ll also be local live bands, locally sourced food and community socializing. Santa will be available to meet with a Christmas theme to get people in the spirit of holiday gift giving. Gift- wrapping proceeds will benefit Evoke Arts and Media.
“Our mission is to highlight local talent,” says event coordinator Angela Capretti, “and to help people to be inspired to give those kinds of gifts this year.”
Small Business Saturday was created to encourage people to shop at local businesses instead of following the traditionally known “Black Friday”, where it’s common to rush to large store chains to get discounts and holiday deals. By purchasing local handmade holiday gifts, the dollar is kept supporting the local community rather than large corporate stores.
Located in the middle of the Broad Ripple neighborhood and cultural district, Evoke Arts and Media is a place for concerts, art galleries, art-making, film screenings, community conversations and community organizing.
Free admission. Location: 6185 Guilford Ave., Indianapolis. For more information, call 317-281-0568 or visit EvokeIndy.org.
