2017 Public GreenSpace Recipients Selected by KIB
Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. (KIB) awarded three community projects for 2017 as part of its IPL Project GreenSpace. KIB received numerous applications for the program, demonstrating the desire for community greenspace in our city.
Through placemaking efforts since 1995, KIB, in partnership with Indianapolis Power & Light Company and the city of Indianapolis, has helped neighborhoods, schools, churches and other community-based organizations create vibrant public places that focus on native plant palettes, connecting people to nature and building lasting value through sustainable and community- inspired design.
Community Caring and Sharing Park & Garden: This Mars Hill neighborhood food pantry plans to create a pocket park and garden filled with native plants, trees and community gathering spaces and food production where there’s little access to greenspace.
Athenaeum Greenspace: The Athenaeum Foundation will enliven a small portion of greenspace in the Mile Square with an interactive space for nature, art and gatherings to bring natural beauty to Massachusetts Avenue.
Progress House Pocket Park: Progress House, in Irish Hill, will add beauty in an underutilized south lot by turning it into a tranquil gathering place for reflection and counsel for their residents and others.
Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. is a private, nonprofit organization that engages diverse communities to create vibrant public places, helping people and nature thrive. In 2015, KIB worked with more than 20,000 volunteers on 650-plus community projects.
