Celebrate National Bike Month
May is National Bike Month with the local Bike to Work Week from May 15 to 19 and Bike to Work Day on May 19, a national event sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists. It encourages citizens to honor the benefits of cycling on health and the environment by cycling to work and gaining a new perspective of their community.
In honor of Bike to Work Day, IndyCog, Indianapolis Bicycle Advocacy, is conducting an event on May 19 for cyclists to celebrate together from 7 to 9 a.m. at the City Market downtown, with light refreshments and comments from city officials. IndyCog is a membership-based organization whose mission is to promote bicycling as a safe and viable means of transportation and recreation in Indianapolis.
Fishers-based LoKe Bicycles ran a bicycle donation charity event in mid-April at Brooks School Park, in Fishers, that accepted donations of bicycles of all conditions for those in need. LoKe also held free bike safety checks and a safety clinic was conducted by the Fishers Police Department. LoKe Bicycles offers a wide range of mobile repair services and provides consultations about riding needs.
