IndyCog Celebrates Bike to Work
May is National Bike Month with the local Bike to Work Week from May 14 to 18 and Bike to Work Day on May 18, a national event sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists. It encourages everyone to trade their horsepower for pedal power and experience the benefits of cycling on health and the environment by cycling to work and gaining a new perspective of their community.
According to the League of American Bicyclists, nearly half of all trips in the U.S. are less than two miles, which makes bicycling a feasible, eco-friendly commuting option.
In honor of Bike to Work Day, IndyCog, Indianapolis Bicycle Advocacy, is conducting a free event on May 18 on Monument Circle from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Activities throughout the day will include free all- day bike parking in the Indy Bike Hub at the YMCA at the City Market, a free breakfast and educational opportunities to learn more about the Indianapolis biking community. Events will conclude with a happy hour celebration where cyclists can meet representatives from more than two dozen area bicycling organizations and learn about their many activities conducted in the community.
