Natural Awakenings Indianapolis

Letter from Publisher

Donna Kirk

Dear Awaken Indy Readers, I’m thrilled, honored, blessed, humbled, inspired and so delighted to introduce myself.

Those who know me are probably aware that I love words. I have always loved reading… in fact, my parents maintain that I could read the newspaper at age 3. I studied Spanish and French in college, which fortified my general love of words and their definitions, pronunciations, origins, spellings and symbolism. I can’t help but notice the parallels between the significance of March and my life as I begin this journey as Publisher. March is named after Mars, the Roman god of war, and it was originally the first month of the Roman calendar. March often indicates the end of winter and the beginning of spring, a time of rebirth and rejuvenation. It’s a time when things become green again, renewed. Although Mars is more commonly known as the god of war, he is also known as the god of spring, agriculture and fertility. It feels divine to begin my first month of this new venture, new and “green” as I am, in the month of March.

Many years ago, I picked up my first copy of Natural Awakenings in Northern Kentucky, where I was born and lived most of my life. This was before the internet became what it is today; at that time, information was not quite so readily available as it is now. Hooked on the magazine, I couldn’t get enough of the different healing modalities, the natural healing foods and supplements… WOW! Every month, Natural Awakenings opened my eyes and mind to authentic, nature-based ways of healing I’d never known existed. Ever since, I’ve successfully utilized numerous holistic healing modalities in order to achieve personal growth, expand spiritually and improve mental and physical health. I even graduated from a rigorous three year Energy Medicine program while living in Massachusetts, and I became a Reiki Master just last year.

I’ve been married for 11 years and, luckily, I’m still called “mommy” by our two precious daughters. Since they were toddlers, I’ve talked to them about how different foods make our bodies feel and I’m proud that they love their fruits and veggies! The Indy VegFest on Saturday, March 30, is the perfect event to celebrate the message for adults and kids alike. During that same weekend, March 30 and 31, the Good Journeys Expo will be taking place in Noblesville. I’m looking forward to being at both events to meet readers, advertisers and supporters of Natural Awakenings Indy!

I invite you to connect with us on Facebook and by going to our website, AwakenIndy.com. I’m open to suggestions about the future growth of the magazine and changes you’d like to see.

Thank you, Gracias, Merci!!!
