Homeopathic Touch

Sergiy Druganov

Sergiy Druganov’s passion for homeopathic medicine has been decades in the making.

The Ukrainian native says that while he was in medical school in the 1990s, alternative and holistic approaches to health were quite popular in his country.

It was during that time that he discovered homeopathy.

“I was so impressed with the results, I decided to try it on myself,” he says.

Druganov experienced chronic sore throats and enlarged tonsils, and decided to see if homeopathy would help alleviate his symptoms. Within a couple of weeks, his symptoms subsided and he was convinced this was an avenue he wanted to pursue with his patients.

“My love story with homeopathy started at the beginning of my medical career,” 45-year-old Druganov says.

Druganov received his medical degree in 1997 from National O.O.Bogomolets Medical University in Kyiv, Ukraine. He later completed a two-year course of study in Classical Homeopathy and later added general osteopathic manipulation, visceral osteopathic manipulation and cranial osteopathic manipulation to his repertoire of healing modalities.

In the early 2000s, Druganov and his wife moved to the U.S. and settled in Nevada. Following his wife’s graduation from her graduate work, the couple moved to Indianapolis where she was offered a position at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

In 2015, Druganov established his practice at Homeopathic Touch, in Indianapolis.

Druganov holds a specialty in pediatric medicine and says he has always enjoyed working with children. However, he noticed there is stark difference between how homeopathic medicine is received here as opposed to how it is in the Ukraine.

“The situation in America is quite difficult because holistic practitioners have no rights to say anything about conventional medicine and drugs,” he says.

Homeopathy is a nearly 200-year-old system of medicine discovered by Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician and chemist.

“He was the first to run what we know as clinical trials,” Druganov says.

The system is based on the idea that “like cures like” and utilizes various plants, minerals and animal-based products, as well as chemical substances in small doses to jumpstart the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Homeopathic treatment is entirely based on the individual and his symptoms, Druganov says.

“Every substance will trigger a particular set of symptoms in a person,” he says. “We go through the individual features and find the substance that fits best and will create a defense mechanism in the areas that are affected by disease.”

The use of plant, mineral and animal-based treatment works in line with the idea that the body is animated by a vital energy source. Druganov says homeopathic treatment works to gently interact with that vital energy to create positive change in the body.

It simply comes down to treating the underlying condition, rather than pursuing therapies that only address one’s symptoms, he says.

“In conventional medicine, each body part is seen separately,” he says. “If someone presents with a symptom, they are given something that will clear up that one particular symptom, not the underlying disease.”

For example, fever is the body’s natural defense against infection, he says. With traditional medical approaches, the intent is to alleviate the fever. However, reducing fever only debilitates the body’s ability to heal and leaves the patient vulnerable to complications from infections.

“From a homeopathic perspective, that is not acceptable because you are hurting the body,” Druganov says. “If the body doesn’t fight, bacteria is free to do what it wants to do.”

It is simply a matter of returning the body to a state of homeostasis.

Druganov hopes that homeopathic medicine experiences a revival of sorts, as it is a viable, safe modality of treatment, he says.

“Homeopathy is extremely safe and, at the same time, very effective in the treatment of a wide range of conditions,” he says. “And it can be used in people of all ages, from infants to seniors, and even in animals.”
